Re: Ontario guys read this (paul79)
I have read the 25 pages. Aside fom window tinting I do not find any problems. What section are you referring to?
OK here is the part that is trouble. If you have a non modified car then you do not have to worry. It's written in legalsleaze to cofuse us peons.
72.2 (1) No person shall drive or permit to be driven on a highway a motor vehicle with a prescribed part, containing a prescribed substance or equipped with perscribed equipment in perscribed circumstances.
Sounds confusing, you bet I would say the moron that wrote it is even more confused than we are but here is the part the descibes the "prescribed substance" as any part they feel is commonly used in racing
(a) perscribing substances, parts and equipment commonly used in racing for the purpose of this section;
Then it goes on to say what the police will do when they find the "racing" equipment
(2) A police officer exercising his or her powers under section 82 may take or cause to be taken a sample of any substance from a motor vehicle to determine whether or not the motor vehicle contains a prescribed substance.
(3) A police officer exercising his or her powers under section 82 may,
(a) remove any prescribed substance, part or equipment from a vehicle and dispose of them, or cause their removal and disposal, at the cost and risk of the driver and owner, who are jointly and severally liable; or
order the driver or owner of the vehicle to remove any prescribed substance, part or equipment from a vehicle and disposed of appropriately.
I think they are looking for a prescribed substance: nitrous oxide. Some Whiz Kid at Queen's Park read too many car magazines in his spare time. But it does represent a dangerous precedent. And I do not say this entirely in jest: I am guilty of having a full-flush toilet in my house. You know; those ones you only have to flush once to clear rather than the environmentally friendly ones that...sort of don't have enough HP. And you have to flush three times to save half the water. ????????
Okay guys, am I right in assuming the following: Those who are responsible for this Bill to even be considered are the businesses that cater to the 'ricer' community, as they, in my opinion, do not show due diligence in screening their clientele as to their intended use of the equipment. It is also my understanding through my conversations with SFast80 that a smaller motor, i.e. Honda 1.8 L is not recommended for something such as Nitrous and is, if I understood Sfast correctly, it is also dangerous. Therefore those to blame for this Bill is the businesses that intentionally catered to those who they knew would be using this equipment for the purpose of street racing, and if they didn’t know they most be wearing blinds. Unfortunately those of us who are responsible with our cars are going to be punished...
This doesnt effect me, but reading about it really pisses me off. I have ALOT to say about this, but if i said it all, i would be writing a 5 page essay. Ill spare you all the boredom. Obviously the idiot(s) who wrote this BS law drove crappy cars and always lost their races. Theyre probably just ricers with loud fart pipes. Either that or they know nothing about cars. I suggest that, in addition to having the petition signed, go to the meetings. Question the politicians. Find out what they drive. See if they have ever needed to replace a part on it. Ask them if they drive as little as 5 over the speed limit. Make sure they become exposed, even if it is petty crimes like forgetting to signal a turn. Show them, and the people just how much of a**holes they are. You could even write an article for your local paper(s). Another thing, down here (in CT), the police drive Ford Tuaruses. They claim that they have some extra power under the hood, some even say the have nitrous. Last time I checked, nitrous can be used in some racing, and has. If a cop ever pulls you over and asks to check under YOUR hood, ask him if you can FIRST look under his. I'm sure if they have been modified the way they 'brag' that they are, you will be able to find plenty of aftermarket a.k.a. racing parts. "Excuse me officer, but I dont think your ford taurus came with that Crane Camshaft. I guess were going to have to remove that immediately.(close hood of cop car). Officer, next time you try to bust me for using racing parts, first make sure you have none under your own hood :nono: . (quickly jump into vette. Lock doors. Do a long burnout and then speed off. He cant catch you with a Taurus.)" I would love to see the look on his face when you say that. Lets say his car is clean. I would love to see an officer try to remove your headers or sidepipes. "I must warn you, officer, that exhaust will probably be a little hot. Don't burn yourself." Another thing, would a sticker that says SCCA Club Racing on my front bumper count? Ive never seen an SCCA race car without one.
Another way to get around this is to go all out on the aftermarket parts. Get enough power to outrun even their fasted cars. I once saw a N.Y. State trooper driving a Camaro squad car. Good luck with overturning this proposal. Sorry this is so long everyone....
Signed the petition and eMailed the Minister.

The Honourable Norm Sterling
Minister of Transportation
Minister,
Bill 241 is an example of the "using-a-hammer-to-squash-an-ant" approach to legislation. Many classic cars are outfitted with unusual parts that, in the 1960s were commonplace but, now are rare and highly valued to those in the hobby.
Granting sweeping powers to police officers to remove and destroy prescribed substances (without the bill bothering to name them) is a dangerous precedent, and delegates unusual and inappropriate confiscatory powers to politicians and/or civil servants acting in the name of the Lieutenant Governor.
Extracted from Bill 241: 172.2 (9) the Lieutenant Governor in council may make regulations,
(a) prescribing substances, parts and equipment commonly used in racing for the purpose of this section;
-----------------------------------
3) A police officer exercising his or her powers under section 82 may,
(a) remove any prescribed substance, part or equipment from a vehicle and dispose of them, or cause their removal and disposal, at the cost and risk of the driver and owner, who are jointly and severally liable; or order the driver or owner of the vehicle to remove any prescribed substance, part or equipment from a vehicle and disposed of appropriately.
-----------------------------------
As the owner of a classic 1967 Corvette, I have no intention of "street-racing". I do, however, own a car with considerable high-performance equipment that was commonplace in the 1960s.
Minister, your support of "year-of-manufacture" license plates for our classic cars was appreciated. Surely you know enough about people in the hobby to recognize that blaming everyone in the high-performance classic car hobby for the actions of street-racers is bad legislation!!!!!!!
P.S. Thank God there's a Chevy part number for the side-mount headers. :D :D :D
If this law passes, you can bet I'll carry photocopies of the parts and the Chevy part number with me, along with my lawyers phone number to stop some maroon from pulling them off my car. :mad :lol:

Re: Ontario guys read this (67HEAVEN)
67HEAVEN -> That is a well written letter to the minister. I hope others will follow and write a quick note to their respective MPP's. I know they read these letters as I got into a big fight with all of them over smog testing my '80 in 2000 when it was 20 years old. The MPP's, MP's and even the Minister of Transportation responded to every letter written and I eventually won and didn't have to get my car smog tested.
So I hope no one thinks it's a waste of time to write as they will get a response.
