Does anyone know of a company that makes a L-88 hood that is just an inch or two taller than the factory L-88 hood rather than the 5 or 6 inches of the XL hoods out there? In my 73 I'm running a SB with Edelbrock Super Victor, 850 Holley, and 3" drop base air cleaner. ACI has a chart that shows what size blocks to place in the rails to see the clearance of their reproduction L-88 hood. When I checked, it was so close that I had to replace the wing nut with an acorn nut to get maybe an 1/8" of clearance. That is to close for comfort, but I think the XL hoods look too gaudy for my taste. I would hate to buy a new hood only to have the paint shop chop it up to add an inch or so to it.
Leave it to a fellow Ohioan to be the one with the answer ( I'm in Chillicothe )! Thank you so much. That 1 1/2" is exactly what I'm looking for. I want to turn that 427 SBC loose so badly, but I just can't run around hoodless like all the boys with their hopped up 4banger imports. They think it's cool but they're too young to know better. Thanks again.
I thought my search was over after the post by C3 Stroker about Stinger Corvette until I went to their webpage. They are no longer in business. Back to square one. Anyone have another suggestion?

If using a 3" deep filter element......have you considered replacing with a 2" element and using a K & N Airstream filter top instead of the solid metal top? - that'll give you and extra inch of cleance and improved airflow with the Airstream top, more than compensate for the reduced height element.
Show us some pictures of your intake, carb and air cleaner set up.
Include pictures with and without the air cleaner.
I had to go to a 1.5 inch drop base air cleaner and a perfectly flat air cleaner lid to get everything to fit.
I also had to remove my 1” carb spacer and bolt the carb directly to the intake.
Show us what you got!
Do these hoods have the cold air package like the original?
A lot of people have had fitment issues with the cold air package. If it's included or not I would get it separately and bond it on when it's fitted to your car. You can always buy the cold air from any vendor.
That's a nice looking air box. Can you spare some details on that?
I found it on ebay... Its actually made by spectre and kinda pricey but it works perfectly to seal against my greenwood turbo vented hood and works as a cowl induction type CAI I have a dual temp gauge in the car with a probe inside the air cleaner and one in the engine compartment and this setup does work as a CAI. I did have to cut like an inch off the straight edge at the rear so my hood support would clear its a drop base but they make different versions. I actually am replacing the 14" cleaner base that riveted to the base of this because im going with an ACES killshot TBI and it wont clear the drop base. these are kinda old pics and ive changed a few things but not the airtbox.
