I can't imagine why it wouldn't be OK. I've never taken the main cables off while charging, either when using a trickle charger or a "get-me-going" charger.
Yes its ok to leave the battery in the car and connected when charging. Remember that batteries emit combustable gasses. So be carefull and protect your eyes when connecting chargers and working with batteries. Just a small spark from connecting a charger can ignite these gasses and poof goes battery acid in yur face. Especially, the gasses can collect when batteries are stored in tight closed compartments like in our C3's. Saftey first.
Dear Rick,
I agree with other posts, but may I recommend that next time you need to buy a battery, get yourself an Optima. Dry cell, NO GASES!!,
no acid spillage, and "infinitely" rechargable if needed. They keep a charge, when the car is being stored for a while, a lot better than a wet cell battery will . I even have one in my daily driver Holden Commodore and have never had a problem with it. If they made one small enough, I'd even get one for my BMW R80. I can't speak highly enough of them. After all, GM fit them to new Corvettes, don't they?
i guess it's ok, but on the several occasions when I put a charger on my vette battery I always took it out of the car for convenience (easier access to the terminals and a plug for the charger) MJ
I charge mine all the time with the cables connected.
Just make sure you open the windows and have plenty of fresh air ventilation
and you'll be fine. And, oh yea, no smoking around the area
