Hi guys..I just bought a 81 stalled project car. The engine compartment is a mess . The one thing Ii know for sure I am dumping the computer and going old school,
The question I have is the lock up torque converter and how to approach this when I get to the tranny..Am I going to have to trash the trans or can it be saved and how?
oh, there is a tvs? cable, trans pump pressure, shift cable that controls trans
mounted to carb throttle linkage.
proper care should be taken when dealing with that

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 81 TH350 didn't use a TV Cable. That came the next year with the 700r4. If the TH350 looks like it has any issues at all I would be doing a 700r4 anyway.
The car hasn't been delivered yet but that doesn't keep me from developing solutions to problems.. I retired as a GM parts mgr so I know I just enough to get in trouble .lol...

there is a cable. it changes shift points and can hurt the trans
I hope the trans is good, but my luck doesn't lean that way. . Its going to be awhile before I start turning bolts anyway.. I have to have a little surgery next week and it's going to keep me from doing anything much for a few weeks... I appreciate your help
81 with TH350 and lock up converter......I swapped out the computer carb and associated distributor with earlier models, making no changes to the trans regarding lock up. The transmission shifts normally at slow speeds, road speeds and at WOT. I've heard all kinds of other stories, but mine works fine and you would never know it has a non functioning lock up converter in it. Just my story.
