I have a 1977 C3 T-10 4Speed trans and re-attached the shift arms after reinstalling my rebuilt motor with new cluth and Trans. I tried to shift the trans but it is now stuck and won't move. I read the previous post on using a pin or gauge but was hoping I did not have to go though that painful exercise. Looking at the drawings and other assembly info is exactly ver clear. So, do I unbolt the 3 shift arms and then install the gauge pin or a piece of flat bar as I have seen. then adjust the shift arms to meet the correct length. I stll don't understand Why this happened since I attached the shift arms back into their original locations.
Also what is the proceedure for replacing the upper and lower Differental cushions. I removed the bolt and the bottom cushion is in compresson. my car is on jack stands. so do I slowly jack up thr diff bracket to relieve the pressure or is thr a better way., not really fond of being under the car with this all going on but I have got to get this done....so close to being back on the road again.
Maybe a stupid question but do you have the arms on the transmission pointing up?
Placing a jack under the bracket will only compress the bushing more. Try a crow bar or large screwdriver to pry the bracket down.
So, for comparison. I own a 1977 C3 Corvette with factory Super T10 gear box. Over the years I've had the box out a couple times. Most recently to replace a clutch. I remove the shifter from the bracket, then the bracket from the trans mount. I never turn the shift rod adjusters. They are still to this day right where the factory set them. I just remove the arms from the side of the box. I completely rebuilt the shifter, never turned a adjustment. Put it back on the car. Away I go!
What you described was basically what I did, so as not to upset the shift pattern. When I tightened the Nut on the Longest rod I did feel something move inside the trans so that must have caused the problem. But, how do you tighten the nuts with out causing this to happen. I am totally confused not to mention fighting with the exhaust pipes which I will most likely have to drop them down again. More pain and anguish!!!
I made a mistake in describing what I did. I removed the Shifter arms which are attached to the trans. I should have removed the rods and not the shifter arms. This was a rookie mistake. OUCH!!!!
