I have a 69 convertible hard top. Has a 454 in the car obviously not stock engine. I want to replace some components on the power steering system as the lines etc are leaking. From what I’ve seen there seems to be a difference in the rebuild kits from a small black to a big block. How would I go about identifying the difference before I order the right kit?
I would start with the Assembly manual and see how many of the original brackets you still have on the engine. For my 1968 427 BB it was mostly different parts from the small block engines of the eras. I ended up buying a serpentine belt conversion kit and that really opened up the front of the engine area. The serpentine belt system came with billet brackets and pulleys all made from aluminum which helps on a BB car loose a few pounds up front of the engine.
There are companies who sell all the parts you will need. You might want to consider an after market front accessory drive system. Holley makes a couple nice sets and other manufacturers have theirs available for comparison in Summit or Jeg's catalogs.
