I have a 69 L-46 convertible with manual transmission. The car has a limited slip differential. I took out yesterday and there was a pretty load noise from the differential. Can anyone recommend a mechanic to look at this problem? Someone that specializes in this type of repair. I live in central NJ.
Thanks for any help.

Try posting your question on the Regional forum for NJ.
At the very least, check the oil. Once the top plug is removed, put your pinky finger in the hole and see if you can see or feel the oil. If the unit needs serious attention and you are comfortable removing it, contact Gary at GTR1999. Do a search for his posts in the C-2 and C-3 forums. He lives in Conn. which is worth the drive if he has an opening. Jerry
A clunk from the diff could be the front snubber bushing rocking or ripped. Within the diff, is not good. The pinion yoke should not have any in/out play in it, if so, the diff has to come apart. 69 did not, repeat, did not have good posi's. I am building one now and it was still good, but it was a transition year for the diff. This 69 has a carryover Eaton posi from 68 which is worse than the 69's were.
I would check for loose mounting and snubber before removing the diff. If you do and pull the cover, I can tell you a lot by looking at some pictures.
I will be holding a seminar this Saturday in CT as well, topic is TA but I will cover all areas I specialize in.
The go to place around here is Corvette Paramedics in Columbus, last I heard they had a waiting list, I heard good things from some trusted friends at a car show about a guy in Ewing, and J&S in Hamilton is an honest guy. I can get the ewing info if you are interested.
You didn't provide much info on your noise, GTR is the resident expert on Diffs, listen to him...

For THE best in the business see post #4. Follow whatever TH he says. Great news is you are easy driving distance to his shop. Doesn't hurt that he is also an incredibly nice guy. I have same car...69 L46 manual with posi. Only difference is my diff was already rebuilt by Gary. If I were you I would be out in the garage right now pulling the diff to get it to him because business is first come first serve and you ain't on the whiteboard til he got your stuff. And be patient as he usually has a backlog...but worth the wait. Good luck!
