Hey all I'm looking to replace the valve stem seals and umbrellas on my 77 Vette. I want to use a Valve holder air pressure set up to stop the valve from dropping into cylinder.
Question --- what size is the spark plug holes on this base Chevy 350. Everything on-line (Amazon, Ebay, Advanced Auto) is referencing M10, M12,M14 or M18 size. And most of these are listed to fit an LS motor.
Where can I find a tool like this to fit my motor?
So a piece of rope will stop the valve from dropping? I just don't see it filling the cylinder enough to stop the valve from moving.
When you say a little length, how long? I would imagine nothing longer than 6-8" will fit in there
I have not had the pleasure of doing the valve seals with an engine assembled. I would probably use the air pressure to hold the piston in place as I have a large capacity air compressor with 175 psi pressure. The rope system seems like a great alternative IF you don't have lots of air pressure.
With a 427 the heads weigh like ~125 lbs per side and you do not want to have to pull them if you drop a valve.
