I recently determined that someone work had been done to my passenger side fender. As a result, there is no way to correctly mount the top of the louver. Page A13 or M235 of the AIM shows a bracket that is called REINFORCEMENT, number 3963168. I am missing this piece. I am sure i can fab something up or buy it from one of the suppliers. How does it get installed? Anyone done it?
Thanks
It's just an angled fiberglass bonding strip but it's waaaaay backordered from CC. Being fiberglass is no issue as it only holds the U-clips for the side vents' sheet metal attaching screws. When bonding this type of part, 3M 08115 is perfect – it's a quality 2-part panel bonding epoxy.
I am going to make this part myself out of fiberglass sheets by laying them into a piece of angle iron then bond it to the car. thanks for the tip on how to bond it. I will use tinfoil or something to keep the resin from attaching to the angle iron.
for anyone who is going to make this bracket, i am going to give you the info i derived from the driver side bracket in which i duplicated.
The length is about 12"
the width of each side is about 1" I am not done yet with mine but i know 1" is enough for the installation of the clips to hold the grill
the angle is not 90 degrees as i had previously stated. It is about 118 degrees.
I made a mold out of two pieces of pine with a 118 degree angle. I layered the mold with blue painters tape
I then cut pieces of fiberglass matting about 3" wide and laid in about 3 pieces with the resin.
once it cured, i trimmed it up. now i am waiting for the bonding agent to come in the mail.
