Maybe y'all can help me
I am currently driving an 86 C4 and posted this request over on the C4 side, but I seem to never get such a good responce from them on fixing stuff like I do over here when I have problems with my 73....So...I wondered if you folks could take a stab at it if you have seen this before...with the 86 As I shift gears the RPMs want to go up and generally stay up after the gear change and I have let off of the gas...it seems as though the gas peddle is not as responsive as it should be when there is no longer a foot on the peddle, until I rev the engine, then the RPMs and idle go down...I can be in 3rd or 4th and let off the gas and the speed stays constant or will gradually increase..any ideas on what is happening and what I can look for to fix?
I've noticed the tendency of some cars to act that way, the engine rpms will even stay up slightly and then drop back down to idle. I think it is something to do with the polution control. There apparently is a solenoid of some kind that prevents the throttle from closing completely and then slowly falls off to normal. I have never invesigated this phenomena, and have just accepted that the computer controlled stuff is a beyond me.
On some instructions for programming the Accel EFI on my Formula is a mention that if you rev your eng and it does not return to idle like a carb does your throttle follower needs to be adjusted. Not sure if the stock ecm has it, or even how to do it on mine, but thought I would mention it just in case it might help.
At times the throttle valves will have a carbon build up causing them to stick.Remove the throttle valve and clean with carb cleaner and toothbrush.Make sure you get the correct GM gaskets and install in proper order.Might not be your problem but I`ve seen it a few times.

The only responce that I have gotten so far from the C4 side of the house is this:
Check the throttle linkage for binding at the TB if none service the IAC under the TB.
So with this and attempting to clean the throttle valves, I have a better idea and direction to go than reeling in confusion.

I would first start by cleaning the TB and the IAC (very important step everyone forgets).
The current issue of Vette Magazine had a write up on this very subject.
Try http://www.vetteweb.com -- I see they have not updated the current issue on the web, but they probably will soon. Go to a book store and get the current issue and they have full instructions on how to take care of these two items.
Could it be a Vac leak?.When you release the throttle, the rpms go up a bit because its leaning out?I think theres something loose that draws air down the intake, maybe :smash:

Thanx for the advice...Also getting more responce on the C4 side than I have ever gotton on any thread I have posted over there. Good things to look into from both sides hopefully I can get this knocked out with minimal headaches. :)
