I have a 1974 Coupe with the L48 and 4 speed. I just received my new long block engine from Summit and the dipstick is on the passenger side, not the drivers. This oil pan needs to be replace because it won't clear the steering linkage. What options do I have for a Corvette pan with a passenger side dipstick? Will a 1980-1982 pan work? The dipstick is on the passenger side on those pans.

I suspect this is what you need..... but make sure you read the rest of the thread to ensure we're talking about the same thing. I got my pan at the boneyard (large chevy, late 80s to early 90s) but for this price I'd just order one. Remember read the rest of the thread because you may (maybe not...depends on sump depth) have to change your oil pickup for the shallower pan....
$38 bucks! on sale! read the thread and order before the sale ends!!

So, you purchased a engine, a complete engine.
But it didn't come with a dip stick or tube?
This I find interesting.
A oil pan that doesn't clear C3 power steering. That I've seen. But no dip stick or tube? WOW.
A friend purchased a blue print 383 and dropped it into his 76. The oil pan fouled the steering. I bent the pan upwards with a long pry bar. Not particularly pretty. Although who's under there.
But, it works.
The engine is a generic long block meant to fit many applications. It sates in the description the 5qt oil pan will not work on certain Corvettes. I had planned on buying a new pan anyway. What I didn't expect was the dipstick on the passenger side. Makes a difference locating a correct Corvette pan and dipstick.
The pan is one thing. Slightly different from a standard chev pan in the need of clearance for the power steering ram and drag link.
But this is slight, like 1/2 inch. As I said, I had little trouble just denting one slightly to clear.
The dip stick and tube that came with your long block should be just fine. why are you stressing about this???
Yes, I understand the pan difference, I've owned 7 Corvettes in the past 55 years. The long block didn't come with a dipstick or tube. Some oil pans for the C3 are 4 qts, this engine is 5 qts. I just to make sure all the components match.

I picked up the dipstick at the boneyard where I got the oil pan. But I like going to the boneyard. Anyway - if you go look for a late 80s to 90s' longitudinal chevy and grab the dipstick. Just eyeball the pan check that it looks about like yours. For that matter you could take a tape measure to ensure the sump depth is the same as your new pan. Just check the length of the tube support..... no big deal either way, you can cut your dipstick and remark the full point with a file or a dremel.

When I rebuilt my engine I damaged the original dipstick housing so I bought an aftermarket unit and installed it on my oil pan. The next oil change I simply marked each quart as I added them to the new engine.
The '80 up dipstick is hard to find. Aftermarket made specifically for '80 and newer Vette should work. I have one from Ebay and it worked. Hope my link below works.
My L31 crate engine has a dipstick on the passenger side and the oil pan didn't interfere with the steering. It was originally made for a 1996-2002 Chevy pickup.
