The Competition Plus by Hurst is a nice replacement. However, if you want to keep the car stock, consider rebuilding the factory shifter. Most of the major Corvette vendors sell rebuild kits. Jerry
I had a Hurst shifter for a while, based on nothing but hype. Sold it and rebuilt my original, which felt more solid and with more "authority", if that makes sense?
With the new Hurst Shifters reputation being destroyed by quality control issues among many other problems. And as much as I LOVE the Hurst shifter I bought 20+ years ago, I don't think they are available in the original quality level like that anymore. Hurst was purchased by the Holley Group and then "someone" decided to save some money in production costs to try and make the company profitable again. It happens over and over again.
Rebuilding the factory shifter is a fairly easy option with the readily available shifter rebuild parts. After my factory shifter was rebuilt, the missed shifts dropped to virtually zero. The factory shifter feels will feel more precise after its overhaul. The biggest difference the Hurst shifter made was to reduce the throws to a minimum and very solid gear changes. In my opinion, the Hurst IS better than the factory shifter but the factory shifter is not that bad to start with, when rebuilt.
When installing a shifter for the first time, I was surprised at how easy it was to get the Hurst setup properly once it was bolted in place. The shifter was one of the best upgrades I have made as it makes the gearbox much easier to live with. Do you really NEED a Hurst to be happy?
I would stick with the rebuilt Factory Shifter and look for an original older Hurst to get rebuilt.
