I have a 1980 C3 with L48 automatic. Just installed Dougs sidepipes with medium mufflers inside.
I have a stock engine and I am trying to understand this quadrajet carb. The car starts, warms up and idles fine. When I floor the accelerator I cant hear the typical roar of the four barrel kicking in. When I remove the air cleaner and manually actuate the accelerator link at the carb to full open, I do not see the secondary plates move at all. Is there a way to validate that they are indeed opening when I am driving the car hard?
TIA,
Ken
Many people mistake the secondary air valve doors for the secondaries themselves. What you want to look for is the throttle blades opening when you actuate the throttle. With the car off but fully warmed up so the choke is off use your finger to push the air valve doors open. Then looking down the carb you should see the secondary throttle blades.
If you’re able to get the secondary air valve doors to move with the car on and actuating the throttle without the car moving that means you have far too little spring tension on it and will cause a lean bog as you go into the secondaries.
