If I bend up 3" stainless steel tubing for sidepipes, do I really need baffles? I figure if they let those annoying Harley's run with pipes that loud, I shouldn't have a problem.

Well, you'll be def in a year. :D Think about it on my Harley the pipes are several feet behind me. On my '68 the side pipes are 3ft from my ear. They sound AWESOME uncapped but a bit much for anything but the track.
I have 3 inch pipes inside of my 4 inch Hooker side pipes and have race car baffles inside of them. They are still too loud to hold any sort of a conversation in the car.
I have nothing inside my side pipes. So it's essentially a 4" open header exhaust with a 468 big block. It is very difficult to talk to a passenger with the windows down driving along. With the windows up it's a little easier. I can set off just about any car alarm known to man :). I have only been warned once about my exhaust. The cops don't seem to bother me *knock on wood*. I have also been complimented by people saying "wow that thing sounds like a drag car!*
I think when you consider that you are putting out 5 times the power of the Harley's, wouldn't ya think the noise (perhaps music) might be a bit more too? :smash:
