Default Rear compartment, judging question

Hello everybody, thank you in advance for your feedback. Attached you will see two different photos. This is from a rear compartment that I purchased for my 72 Corvette. The owner before me discarded all of the original interior apartments and installed an aftermarket solution. Everything on these compartments appears to be correct. The question that I have today is do I try to repaint around the decals or take the hit on points for condition.

if I do repaint, I’m assuming that is a flat black. Thank you again.

the stickers are available. I would order a set before you decide to refinish the doors.

Are we to assume you are referring to NCRS judging? NCCC? Local cruiser event?

In terms of NCRS, if you add paint, then you lose finish originality points. Leave it as is, and the finish gets a "condition" deduction, aging, wear and tear, etc. Then there are the decals; replace and its a deduct (depending on judges) for service replacement. Keep original decals; get full credit on originality and minor deduct for condition. You must weight loss of originality vs. condition: What do you wish to live with?

don’t touch it !!! You will lose originality points which are more of a deduction condition

Definitely leave as is! To be honest (IMO) those are really in great shape for their age. Many or most NCRS judges prefer to see original items on the cars. The condition points deduct should be very minimal for these items. What does the rest of your compartment doors look like? Frames, screws, carpets, hinges, locks & loops etc.

Thank you for the feedback. I will keep them original. As I restore this Corvette, I am looking to maximize the amount of points that I can receive from NCRS judging.
thank you again

when the previous owner redid the rear compartment, they put in all new aftermarket, some new hinges-screws, etc. I have secured the correct hinges. And screws. The carpet and frame are from Al Knoch ( and Al cut the carpet to NCRS guidelines) , I was able to save some of the correct screws and the latches (with the original overspray). The previous owner harvested all of the compartment clips, such as battery and Jack. I’ve secured those components with the original stampings, etc.. and the correct dated Jack for this car.the goal is to Restore to the correct standards and maximize points.

I truly appreciate all the feedback.

Interior black trim is semi-flat or satin black paint....not FLAT black. Flat black paint will easily show any rubs/marks put to the surface and it is not the right sheen for a C3 car. But, your tags/stickers look to be correct for your year. Leave them alone.

perfect, thank you there is a delicate tape from 3M that I will use to trim off any excess and keep the decals original and then touch up with the appropriate paint. Thanks a bunch for all your feedback.
