The windshield wiper vacuum switch has three holes where the vacuum tubes connect. I know which tubes connect to the White & Red marked holes, but what about the unmarked hole? My previous (broken switch) did not have a tube connected to that hole.
Thanks - I thought that might be the case. It was not hooked up when I took the old switch off, and it worked before the spring broke.
We have a 72 base coupe. It was my Father-in-Law's for 43 yrs. It was pretty rough, but I have it mechanically sound and safe. Working on the interior now, and went down the rabbit hole to repair the bird cage.
Hanging out with his cousin. Maybe a paint job next year.
In most cases the unmarked port had a short black hose attached that ran through a hole in the firewall into the engine compartment. I am guessing that was to keep rainwater from entering the vacuum switch and causing premature failure.
I have the 1968 C3 DocRebuild Laminated Vacuum System Chart for my year showing which vacuum hose goes where, the hoses are all color codded just like new. I bought the complete Vacuum Hose Kit I have been so happy. The hoses have properly marked with their color and all the correct diameters. A shop (who also uses DocRebuild) put my first set on but I should be able to install a new set when needed. The vacuum system hoses are in good working shape after you wipe them clean. These vacuum hoses from DocRebuild are probably 30 years old. I will use them until I see the first crack or vacuum leak but for now they look good for a while longer.
I looked at a Vacuum Line chart/Layout for the 1970-72 and there should only be two vacuum hoses attached to each of the following, the headlight switch and the wiper switch with one in the center going to the engine and attaches after the little check valve over the left rear of the intake manifold. This little manual explains the two systems, Wiper door opening and headlight opening and then explained the various changes made over the years.
I was going to "PM" you on the Forum site but the software doesn't take uploads at attachments. I would be happy to attach a copy of the page if you need it.
Thank you. I have gone with the premise that the third connection is a vent, and everything that I can see (including vacuum diagrams online) points that way.

Redoing an early 69 and sure enough; found an old hose from the vac switch vent going (nowhere) into the fender opening.
It’s the vent,it’s there to confuse all of us once. I think there should be a national name
all the valves day so we all know what we are talking about.
