I have a 1978 Corvette with the original (but recently rebuilt) 350 ci, L82 engine. It's been running nicely. I cold started the engine today and as it was warming up at high idle I tapped the throttle to bring the rpm down and the tach buried itself off scale at 7000 rpm. The engine remained at high idle so I shut it down. When I turned on the ignition switch the tach needle resets to around 6500 rpm and then after start, it buries itself again at 7000 rpm. The engine runs just fine. Is the tach board fried? Any other ideas?
Thanks, everyone. If the tach board is, in fact, the culprit, will the needle reset to zero once I apply power to it or do I have to somehow reset it manually?
