I'm going to rebuild my trailing arms shortly, and before I went and bought the right tools I thought I'd see if anyone had them locally and would loan them out (for a postage + fee + slab). If not, I'll buy them and will reply to this post offering mine to loan out in Aus in about 2 months time as otherwise they'll be sitting on a shelf and achieving poor asset utilisation.
I'm after the obvious tools specifically:
1) Spindle Removal Tool
2) Outer bearing removal tool
3) Spindle Mock up tool
4) Trailing Arm Bushing Install Tool
The tools you need to remove the axle are the knocker tool about $20 and 4 or 5 lb hammer.
To set up the bearings you need to decide how you want to do it, common like most, then you need the shim kit which won't have shims close in size. To dial them in for -0- lateral play you need to know how to do it and have a surface grinder.
An old axle will work if you polish it undersize and make a handle, a setup tool with a knurled handle works better. To install the axle on the bearings a common hydraulic press with tubes the diameter of the inner cone race.
For a set of bushings, you can make a tool using the end of a pneumatic tool shank, two steel plates and some bolts.
Those axle press tools sold will bend the caliper bracket. Using a press to remove the axle can bend the arm.
If you mail these tools, really wrap them good..
i lost a set of blocks and trailing arm tools (free loaner program LOL) to the post office.. arrived empty..like a machine tore it up.
