Mount MSD Ignition Limiter Bushing(s) in Delco Distributor
I have a 530 cam plate in an older tach drive GM distributor so 30* mechanical + general wear and a tired original plastic tube bushing pressed on. So I'm getting a bit more like 34+* advance - so I'd like to get this down to at or a little under 30*. I found this thread for using an MSD bushing(s) as suggested in this thread below. Can file off the sides to narrow it as suggested and limit advance with the original unmodified Delco mechanical advance cam slot. But you don't want the bushing falling off the Delco post obviously.
Question is - how do you securely mount the MSD bushings in a Delco? (MSDs have a threaded mounting post and are secured by a nut). My post has a small groove at the end. Perhaps the bushing is short enough to allow for a small E-clip? Or C-clip? Or any better suggestions?
Buy a Mr. Gasket 928G or Moroso 72310 spring kit which includes the correct brass bushing for a points distributor. Squeeze the bushing slightly to distort the hole and then tap it on with a small hammer. It will not fall off.
FWIW when I was using my 71 stock tach drive distributor I was having problems with getting a rubber or nylon bushing to stay on the post. I ended up putting a e-clip in the groove you are referring to and it kept the bushing on the post.

With the e-clip in the groove, were you still able to get the "eye" of the spring to also engage in the groove?
(just asking for the sake of clarity, in this discussion.....)

I used the e-clip on the post under the weights that has an advance limiter bushing on it so it does not have anything to do with the springs on top. I used it to keep the bushing from falling off. i had the rubber bushings from the factory and made some home made bushings and they just would not stay on for some reason.
