Coming from the C4 world we would commonly put fishing Leaders or thin wires on the hood latches just Incase the hood release cables failed and you could pull the loop hidden under the wipers, is this or something like this common in C3 and if so what is the Hack. I would hate to think what would happen if
It isn't common but most of us do it JUST IN CASE. Same principle as in the C4. In my 78 there is room to get your hands into the wiper tray and pull back on the wires at each latch. Some vendors even sell these things. Some owners make the cables long enough to drop down behind the fenders and come out under the car. Your Corvette experience is showing if you are thinking about this! Welcome to the C3 world.

My 64 hood latch got stuck once after replacing the hood, I was able to release it from under the car but not as easy on the C3s with AC.
I just add some cables I got off Amazon to every C3 I get right away just in case.
Yeah I think the C4 guys learned that from us C3 guys. On my 77 I run mine down so they are about even with the frame. I've never needed them but I test them once a year.
As long as you have the extra cables, the original ones will never break!
Mine broke once on my 71 and I was able to pop the hood by removing the egg crate grill on the drivers side and running my hand/arm up and popping the release.

If anyone has links to working DIY backup releases, please post them (I know they exist on this Forum somewhere).
I think there are at least two latch mechanisms over the C3 production. Doing the starboard side for 7x-82 seems to require either a pushrod or a pulley to terminate near the vent, or a pullcord that terminates below the HVAC box.

it's 77-82. Are you talking about the passengers, right side latch? I can post a pic when I get home from work. That's 10 hours from now.

There's only one port and starboard, but sure, passenger side (right side) for a left hand drive Corvette. 77 was when the hood latch changed?
I doubt RHD conversions change the hood latch location. Jeeps, for example, are easy to switch sides, but they only make one steering column, so the turn signal is always on the left side.
I'm certain your correct, there is only one port and only one starboard. But I was never in the navy.
Anyway, I took some pic's of the emergency hood release cables on my car for your entertainment.
first, Drivers side, left side.
I did this years ago but I'm pretty sure I had to dill a hole in that lever for this cable.
Right hand side, passengers side. here we can see I soldered a ring terminal onto the stainless braided wire. It's then connected to the stock factory pin along with the factory crossover cable. This emergency cable is only needed if the crossover cable breaks. It drops down and is inline with the frame just behind the starter motor. Nothing goes into my wiper tray as I have a wiper tray cover that can not be removed with the hood closed.
the wire comes from the hardware store, sold as garage door replacement parts. I have a loop on the bottom of both of them to make grabbing and pulling easy. About a 5 dollar investment.
