Can I remove stock ECM?

I have a 1982 that I replaced the crossfire with a 383. Has an Edelbrock proflo 4 fuel injection. Can I remove the stock ECM or does it still serve some functions? Thanks!

An 82 has an Automatic transmission (so sorry) and a lock up converter. The ECU controls the lock up. Hard to say if it is even doing that without other input however. there are aftermarket solutions.

Can your pro flow control lock up? You can run without converter lock up. You can purchase aftermarket controlers just for that purpose. You can rip that auto trans out and put in a real transmission, the kind with a third pedal.

What are you using for a fuel pump? If it's the stock one then the ECU will still be involved unless someone did some rewiring.

You should not run that early 700-R4 without some means of controlling the lockup clutch. Running with it OFF all the time will cause the trans to run hot and eventually, cause failure.
