I know there’s a ton of threads about people debating wheel/tire sizes, which have been a huge help. But the one thing I never see people discuss is offset.
What offset are you running on your aftermarket wheels? What’s your backspace? And are you running any spacers?
Backspace is far more important than offset because backspace alone determines the innermost plane of the rim, which is critical for assessing clearance with the trailing arm. Offset is more related to the esthetics of the wheel. 50 years ago, “chrome reverse” wheels were a rage because they had huge negative offsets. Modern cars almost always have huge positive offset.
As far as spacers go, I’ve never been a fan but some folks use them.
There are many things that will determine what backspacing will work with your set up.
Wheel width and wheel diameter make a big difference as does wheel design.
Type of suspension also makes a difference.
I used this tool to confirm that 2" spacers would give me the same offset with my new 18" wheels as my OEM N90 wheels. This gives me the 4.75" backspacing that @cagotzmann has shown to work with 18x9.5" wheels, which is what I have.
