Yes. use a jumper wire and OBD-I connector to obtain stored trouble codes. That will guide you to the cause of your problem. Since the light goes out when you shut engine down and doesn't come on with the next start, it is not a CRITICAL issue. But it should b diagnosed ASAP to determine cause so that repair can be made.It could be a faulty temp sensor or other relatively simple issue.
