The door ajar light is not coming on, all the other lights come on the door open, but the door ajar light does not come on. I don’t have a lot of hair left, but this one has me pulling at it!! Anyone up for giving some ideas on where yo look? Are the push switches in the door the same as the ones in the door jam? Just trying to run this down. I’ve made some progress..but you know these cars…one step forward, two steps back.
Thsnk you in advance for your help.
Powe.
UPDATE !
First and foremost I’d like to thank everyone who helps me on this forum. It’s really been extremely helpful, problem solved….
I found the issue this morning, I found where the blue wire runs into the harness and Into a harness plug, all I did was unplug it and plug it back it, and BOOM…it works, I’ve ordered new plungers because these things are in horrible condition.

The Door Ajar switch is located on the back of the door opening.
This thing is very loose but won’t turn, it will tighten…I put some liquid wrench in it. Try again tomorrow, I found a crack underneath my center console, I’ll repair that tomorrow to give me a sense of accomplishment….🤣
I got them out, and they have zero power on the meter…blue wire and white ground, I tried running a Separate ground..still zero power? Almost like these guys gave a fuse??? I’m stuck, any ideas, besides just trace the blue wire and?
I do not know what year you are working on, but for a 69 the black wire is ground and supplies ground to the blue wire. Somewhere the blue wires from the left and right door ajar switches are tied together and go to the body connector and then up to the door ajar lamp. Voltage is supplied by a pink wire from the GAUGES Fuse. If you ground the blue wire the lamp should light If your Parking Brake lamp works, then you should have power to the Door Ajar lamp. Perhaps the bulb is burnt out. I think the circuit is basically the same for a number of years.
Hey,
thanks for that, all the other lamps work, I tried 2 new bulbs. I will ground the blue wire and see what happens, yes the parking brake works perfectly.
I have a 1975 coupe. I tried grounding the blue wire, no light, I get no power from the blue even on the meter. When I touch ground to power, I get nothing. I even tried it the other way, and still nothing. There’s just no power running to them, but the courtesy lights a rear dome light work, evidently I pulled something loose, they were working last week. The only thing I can think of is something around the fuse box, I checked the entire harness and everything is perfect there.
You really need a 1975 wiring schematic so that you can trace the wires from the switches. Some year C3 cars have different wire layouts. Short out both wires and then read voltage at the bulb. I will assume that all fuses are GOOD, and that you have inspected each one to ensure they have not been blown. Good Hunting
If it hasn't been mentioned above, the door ajar switches only transmit electrical "ground", not 12vdc power. The 12vdc is always connected to those interior lamps; you connect ground to them when the door[s] open.
Thus, you need to disconnect the battery when working on these things. 12vdc IS connected...THRU the bulb element to the door ajar switch.
The usual problems are: 1) bad wire joint/connection; 2) corroded contacts in switch; 3) switch is no longer viable; 4) broken wire; 5) wiring issue (unlikely, but possible). Oh, forgot the most likely possibility....bad bulbs or fuse.
Hi,
thanks for the information, I found the issue this morning, I found where the blue wire runs into the harness and Into a harness plug, all I did was unplug it and plug it back it, and BOOM…it works, I’ve ordered new plungers because these things are in horrible condition.
What you 'found' was a corroded connection. You scraped off some of the corrosion with your remove/replace effort, but the corrosion is still there. You don't need to get back into it now...but in short order, you will. Replace the switches and 'seal' the connections with a bit of silicone grease or sealant of some type the next time you dig into it.
