Default Hood weatherstriping

I'm approaching the time to reinstall the hood on my 69. The original weatherstripping was removed so long ago I don't remember details. The new weatherstripping I received is shaped as in the photo. Is it safe to assume the approx 90 degree corner should be glued into the corner of the hood edge? I know that this is applied only to the windshield end of the hood...plus about 12 inches down each side. I kinda remember that each end was cut at an angle - sloping down to the glue surface. Is that typical? Any tips for holding the weatherstripping in place while the glue sets? I've read of difficulties encountered by many installing weatherstripping in other areas. I hope to avoid that for something this simple. Is anything on a C3 simple?
Thanks
Mike

I would find the centerline of the hood and mark it. Then find the center of the weatherstripping and mark it. Now you won’t have to worry about pulling it or stretching it too far. As for holding it in place, apply the adhesive to the hood and the weatherstripping and let it dry. Don’t connect them to each other. Once they are dry put another coat down on one of the pieces. Then place them firmly together. You usually cannot take them apart again so plan carefully. I don’t know about the angle on the ends but it makes sense so as not to squeeze the ends when closing the hood.

I went out and double checked the hood weatherstrip on my 77. As I thought, the ends are cut square, not tapered or angle cut.

I will admit to somehow screwing up the length measurements and applied the 3m adhesive past where the weather stripping stopped. My math skills were never very good. Use painters blue tape and know where to stop the adhesive, just my two cents.

A few years back, 25 or so, I installed a new hood because I don't care to play the "will this fit under my stock hood" game. So,
I had the advantage of having the original hood and weatherstrip right next to the new hood and weatherstrip.
So, although I no longer have that original hood, here's a couple pictures of my current hood and weatherstrip.

If you want closer to NCRS, you might want to use the yellow weatherstrip glue. The black adhesive is fine if you are not trying to match GM. Both work.

I like to clean off the mould release off the weatherstripping with solvent before trying to install it. I like to paint glue on the weatherstrip only so none on the body. Then press in place just long enough to get it on both sides, then pull it back to allow the solvent to escape. It only takes a minute to evaporate then you want to carefully press it back in place. It will stick hard so get it right the first time. You can do a short section at a time small enough to manage and then complete the next section after the first glued section has set.

Thanks to all for the info, tips (and photos 4-vettes). Not that I’m going for NCRS standards, but I will be using 3M yellow. A local store had it for $1 more than black. I am the original owner and trying to keep it close to original.
