Do I need the torque down the bolts that go on the rag
joint? And if so, what’s the torque on them and do I tighten all of them down to the torque specs?
When I installed my new Rag joint I simply cranked them down to ~25 foot pounds and they have never come loose since then. The object is to have them tight enough to not come loose by accident. Never been a problem.

so all the bolts need to be tightened down right? And not in any kind of sequence, correct?
The thing to remember is the column from 67-82 is collapsible so you don’t want to put pressure on the column as in using a pry bar to get the column flange up
My thought too .
Just buy the factory replacement joint from Zip and be done with it.
It’s an easy job. Unbolt the column from the joint then from the dash and firewall and pull it back about an inch and install the new joint. Bolt it all back up. Btw, stay with the original joint and stay away from poly .
Whichever way you go, the ragjoint actually transfers electrical ground up and into the horn circuit. GM flex disc had mesh wire built into it for this purpose. If you replace the disc with one which does NOT have mesh in it, you need to create a ground path from one side of the ragjoint to the other. Braided copper ground-strap is one option to get that done.
OK, thank you. More read up on this joint the more I don’t wanna do it. Looks like a total pain to replace.
its not that bad ive done it twice now.. Just prespray with penetrating oil. I went against the grain here and put a poly joint on my car a couple years ago. I used a regular rubber joint on my uncles car. no issues with either yet.
