I ran into another issue during the re-installation of the center console on my 69. It’s been a while since I removed it so I can’t recall the details. My current dilemma is installing the console plate (not sure if that’s the correct nomenclature) under the Heater Contol Unit. I removed it and I’m now not sure how to reinstall it under the heater control. Please tell me I don’t have to remove the entire Heater Control Unit! I’ve included a picture. It’s not of my car but hopefully will give an idea of my question.
I can’t explain it in a step by step fashion, but just wiggling, twisting, and pulling on it enough you’ll find a way to get it through. I’ve done it many times without causing any damage or scratching anything.
These are my steps
1. Loosely set console on trans hump, attach center gauge cluster, all screws loose
2. metal plate for hvac control goes in next, insert it at an angle below the console ledges, then adjust it so it rides on to of the console,
3. Bring at an angle the hvac control up through the plate, you will need to bring it up at an angle with one end tilted up or down.
you may want to try bringing the HVAC control through the metal plate before you involve the console. The secret is go slow, be gentle, and each part will go in at some angle, not on a flat plane.
I hope this helps, you may try and YouTube where someone did a video. Good Luck
OK, thanks. I just wanted to ensure I would be able to manipulate it in place without needing to remove the heater control first. It’s a very tight fit and reminds me of some kind of magicians trick to get it into position, lol.
You just tip the plate/control head assembly to get one side [right] thru the opening, then move sideways to get the other side in place. That's the reverse of how it was initially removed.
