Default 69 Diff Ring Gear Markings

I wanted to figure out my diff ratio and before I jack it up to count rotations, I found this old photo of my ring gear.

I searched for some of the info from the numbers and letters, however can anyone tell me what these all mean?

Thanks!

That photo is really blurry, but from what I can (and can’t) see, BEFORE the “GM” stamp, there should be a seven digit number (that you can’t see) that would be the part number for the ring gear. The second set of numbers, 11:37 is the number of teeth on the pinion gear (11) and ring gear (37). This also gives you your rear axle ratio; 3.36 to 1 (37/11). The numbers after the “GM” should be the date of manufacture (month - year), but I can’t really make it out.

Regards,

Stan Falenski

Thank you so much Stan, that's so helpful. Here's the original image.

I think the last numbers are "GM E 14 Q2", and from Google...

The "GM E 14 Q2 diff" refers to the GM 10.5-inch 14-bolt differential, specifically the one with a 9.5-inch ring gear that uses C-clips to retain the axles. This differential is often referred to as the "corporate" 14-bolt and is a heavy-duty option.

But I don't think the bolt count means anything in our diffs?

There are only 10 bolts attaching the ring gear on a 63-79 iron differential. Irrespective of ratio or posi/non-posi, they’re all two short of a dozen.
