Default Anyone use this electric headlight conversion kit?

I stumbled upon this looking on flea-bay for other things. Great price if they hold up but they advertise instructions are not included and professional installation is recommended. Well nobody that I don't know touches my Corvette and I'm a DYI'er to boot. Anyone use one of these kits and have wired it? Not that I couldn't figure out the wiring part I'm more concerned about the quality and longevity.

Yes, I have one of those deplorable, despised, and detestable by the Corvette Forum members eBay kits in my car. Works great, no complaints. The motor and gear box looks very similar to what Chrysler used on some of their cars.

You asked. Members responded. Seems like you made up your mind. So why the discussion?

Thanks for spending my money for me. No, I have NOT made up my mind. I come here to make an informed decision and the more data I can gather the better the decision I'll make. Thanks

I purchased mine from Richard 454 and installed them in 2022. They still work fine. I went to eBay and was amazed on how many vendors sell the conversion kits. Are they as good as the ones Richard 454 sells? I have no idea. I tend to not want to chance it and was convinced of the quality.

Ya, never had an issue with them or my wiper door. I just want to eliminate the vacuum draw from my engine now that I'm running EFI. It's just something else to mess with tuning if it should start leaking etc. My system is tight but not that tight. I figured as little as I drive at night $90 is a good investment for what little use they will get. Hell, it takes me less to open them by hand than the vacuum system can. LoL. If it was an Opal GT they opened by a hand lever and was all mechanical.

Absolutely get Richard454's kit if you are spending money. If you want to be really cheap, you can convert to manual headlights. My 80 has been running that mod for years.

Just sayin- you can cut up your headlight assembly- splice wires not rated for under hood use- operates with the parking lights- not get any assistance/install guide or you can plug it in- not cut up your car-don’t have to worry about wires melting and can talk to a human for support.

I got my headlight conversion kit from Richard454. Worked perfect.
If the Amazon kit fails who are going to call? Some one in China?

These kits do work with the headlights, not the parking lights. I did receive instructions with my kit and the install was cake. I'm not sure what the video of a non GM engine is about but here's my non GM engine video:

here's my non GM engine video:
Sounds really good and will be a runner for sure...but... It will not have that Crysler Product starter sound...back in the day you could always tell when one was cranking by the tinny starter sound before it fired...lol

As for the electric head light kits, I'm all about doing things right but that does not always mean using the most expensive stuff. If I were worried about the cheap kit holding up and not getting replacement parts, I would just buy two of them and put one on the shelf in case....It would still be a lot less expensive and there are a number of reliable people saying they have no trouble with them...

You have to run the wire- not suited for underhood temps -not oil/gas rated- will not handle the 20A current off the dimmer switch-a fire hazard- all the way inside the car versus plugging into the low beam.
You have to cut your headlight assembly and take apart your linkage versus no mods/cutting or taking anything apart.

I have a non-GM motor as well

The trigger wire that connects to the dimmer switch only powers a relay coil of 50mA, it's not powering 20 amps of motor draw. While you're technically correct about the wire rating it really doesn't present a problem. The wires are nowhere near gas, oil, or anything that gets hot enough to start melting those wires. And besides your going fuse it anyway. As far as doing some cutting, I can't speak for others but I don't have a problem with that. After all I swapped out the automatic for a Tremec and there's no coming back from that. And really how hard is it to run one wire through the firewall? It's up to the individual what kit suits him/her better. Thank God I don't have to deal with this headlight nonsense on a E body Mopar.
