79 Corvette Weak A/C
Slightly dirty orifice tube. It is the white one, although it appears gray.
Im flushing out the system currently, but for the compressor should I spray a little cleaner in there to get the residual oil out? Or just let it be? I don’t want to damage the compressor but I’m sure there is a lot of residual oil in there. I probably got 3 oz of oil out of the compressor from just holding it over a big cup.
What ever you use it needs to evaporate well before you seal it back up.
So you have to be positive you got it all out.
I used liquid mineral spirits and the flush can to clean my contaminated lines from the black death debris that was in there after a dramatic compressor failure.
Ran fine for many years after that.
I liberally flush with an air hose, although many say not to.
I have a liquid drier on mine, so no moisture.
And I do go way overboard on vacuuming it down, once the new dessicant is in.
For me that is the key indicator.
I have a micron vacuum gauge, and I can watch water/moisture evaporate, and the vacuum climbs.
Only after it stays really low, for an hour, do I charge it.
A 29 psi vacuum just isn't the same, this micron one is like 1000X more sensitive, at those really low levels.
I only have a harbor freight single stage vacuum pump, and I can occasionally pull down to 300 microns, when the flexible gauge hoses don't leak, or aren't hooked up.
Other wise anything below 4000 microns is good to go, as long as it holds.
If it creeps up to 10,000 after a while, it's not good enough for me.
Water boils at room temp at 18,000 microns. If it will hold, below that, there is no moisture.
That is the same as 29.2 in Hg gauge pressure.
Not deep enough for me.
I want all that water/moisture out.

Another possibility could be a faulty seal.
