I own a 1979 Corvette. On Sunday I was going for a ride in my car. I put the car in first gear, put my foot on the gas and the car just died. I tried to restart the car but turning the key did nothing. It was acting like a kill switch had been engaged. When I turned the key, it did nothing. The battery is fine. The next morning it was back to normal. I believe this is alarm related. Does anyone know how to permanently disable or remove the alarm?
Thank you!
Scott

Reason: accuracy
I believe you can pull the fuse. I did it on my '80.
Obviously you could fix it but it is a trouble prone system. Mine was fixed once but it went haywire again later so I just gave up on it. I don't park it anywhere unattended anymore so it does not matter much to me.
Looking at the 79 Corvette service manual electrical section the Factory alarm circuit has NO relationship with either the Start or Run circuit.
Your a little vague describing your No start condition.
Sounds like you have a manual transmission, is your clutch start switch being full made ( Contacts Closed )?
At the end of the day. The fact is, the factory alarm is just a noise maker. It doesn't have a dissable feature. It's far more primitive than that.
So, the OP needs to look for the real problem. His guess is way off base.
I want to thank everyone for explaining to me how the factory alarm works. Now I really need someone to tell me how to remove it from a 79 corvette. Removing a fuse on my car is not an option. I have an early 79 production.
Also, if not the alarm system what was stopping my ignition from engaging the starter while the car was at full operating temp? I turned the key and nothing happened. It is not the switch on the clutch according to my mechanic. It was removed a year ago...
Are you 100% sure there is NO remints of a aftermarket anti-theft system?
When you turn the key to ON do you get dash lights? What happens? explain in detail...
Do you get voltage at the #12 purple wire at the starter solenoid when you turn the key to START?
Here is the 1979 factory Corvette Alarm circuit.
I see NO kill switch...
Pick up a copy of the 1979 Corvette Service manual, you can find the originals on e-bay
