Default 76 Hood Paint

Hi everyone, I want to have the underneath of the hood painted on my 76. Anyone have anyone they recommend for good work at a reasonable price in the Houston, Tx area? No damage just prep and paint. Thanks.

I wish I could tell you. I am getting a new hood, either an L-88 or an LT-1. I have a custom paint so mine will have to be matched before they paint it.
Obviously the painter makes the most difference and the paint cost which is Ridiculous

Gotta pay to play & you get what you pay for. The $99.95 chain shop will Never touch my car.

Or you could go to Eastwood Auto Restorations and get yourself the right shade of under-hood paint for your new hood. I have been very light on the coatings of paint underneath the hood as it insulates and helps the heat stay under the hood. I would simply clean the surface, break the glaze and apply the paint of choice.

The best reason to have it done professionally is because you need to remove the hood and paint it and the re-install the parts. It is a bear to remove the hood and make it fit perfectly afterwards unless you are a "Detail" person. I have the tools and some of the know-how so I would do it myself.

I need to find a way to insulate the underside of the hood a bit as the paint over the area above my headers and cylinder heads cooks the paint and it cracks badly on the surface. I might go reflective and put some reflective insulation on the underside of the hood over the headers only and have the rest of the hood painted semi gloss or Flat Black.

Yea, I actually painted the front lower valance of my C3 myself. It wasn't so bad especially since it was a new one. Underneath my hood is a different story. It would need a lot of cleanup and prep which is kind of why I'm looking for a shop. Pretty rough under there. I may try it myself. Thanks for the feedback.

If A/C compressor oil or motor oil has settled upon and/or penetrated into underside of hood, that will require special consideration; perhaps replacement.

Just scuff it up, blow it off with some compressed air, clean thoroughly with acetone, mask around the edges, and Rust-Oleum flat black rattle can. Easy peasy

Thank you 😊
I would like to add that scribed the hinges around the bolt and had someone help with the hood. I had no trouble with the hood alignment.
