Default Borgeson Issues - Need Solutions!

Hello all!

I just wrapped up a 3,600 mile road trip that included some very spirited group driving on the Tail of the Dragon in the Smoky Mountains. I have encountered and dealt with many small issues that popped up throughout the trip, but now it is time to deal with the most significant problems - my Borgeson box is leaking profusely from the seals, and I have never been able to get the pressure line to completely seal to the pump.

1. Does anyone know of anyone in Georgia, or the Southeast that rebuilds power steering boxes? Particularly the Borgeson Delphi 600 unit that comes with the kit? I know I can buy a new one and wait 3+ months to get it, but it would be great if someone knew of someone local.

2. If no one knows a rebuilder, does anyone have instructions for how to rebuild the box? I have heard it requires special tools... anyone have a lead on where I can purchase the tools?

3. Does anyone have any tricks to keep the pump fittings from leaking? I have always made sure to use the brass fitting that goes into the pump body, but I can never get it to completely seal. It mostly seeps, but right now it is dripping out of the pressure line fitting. I have made sure the fitting is seated to the best of my ability, and that I have tightened the line with the appropriate 11/16 flare wrench to the point that it is almost rounding the head, but still no seal. I am getting to the point where I am going to try and have some custom hoses made that use the flare on the box end and the factory o ring fitting on the pump end.

Any help is appreciated!

I installed the brass fitting but it leaked. I couldn't pry it out so I drilled it out. Replaced the fitting with the correct fitting.... not the adapter to adapter to another adapter that Borgenson provides. I also replaced the low pressure hose, for a slightly longer one... so it didnt kink going into the back of the pump.

Low pressure side, so hose clamps are suffice. Doesn't need to be crimped fittings.

Thanks but the leaks are always from the high-pressure hose. I don't have any issues leaking from the return hose.

Im about to install my 4th, I use these instead of the ferrules in the kit... they give more threading

also I use one of these for return line to avoid the kink

on my Borgeson steering box, high-pressure fitting, it was seeping at the fitting on the box, about 1,500 miles in. I removed the O-ring fitting, and replaced the O-ring with a Viton O-ring, trade size #011. McMaster-Carr #9464K16. I'm not sure, but if the original O-ring that I used was rubber, or Buna-N, probably came with the adapter fitting, then I think that doesn't hold up to power steering fluid. Gradual deterioration of the O-ring. OK for fuel, but not PS fluid.

I'm using an O-ring adapter fitting to AN-6 for the HP side, teflon braided SS hose with steel AN hose ends. yes, i checked the pressure ratings.

Anyways, the Viton O-ring is holding up so far. YMMV.

Well, I bought the highly suggested adapter fitting 605SOL:

After becoming depressed thinking that the adapter did not fit, I realized that there were two different sizes fittings in the package, M18x1.5 and M16x1.5. I installed the correct adapter in the pump, and then screwed the Borgeson pressure line into the adapter with some added permatex thread sealant. I thought all was good, until I started the car and realized that the fitting is still leaking. It is great that it is no longer leaking from the threads, but now it is leaking directly through the center of the fitting! Clearly the flare is not seating.



I tried adjusting the fitting and line as many ways as I physically could, but no luck. I am at my wits end! I think I might just try to find someone who can make a custom power steering line the uses the correct factory I ring fitting at the pump end, and the borgeson fitting at the other.
