Default Temperature connection

Gentlemen,
need direction to find where does the temp gauge connect to the engine? Trying to diagnose a non working gauge first without having to dismantle the console…..

Drivers side cylinder head between cylinders 1 and 3 below the exhaust ports.

Should be a green wire. It is on my 74.
If you short the wire to ground it will peg the Gauge.

On my 77 it's also a green wire, covered by a black heat protective sleeve however. Comes off the alternator harness, goes right where post number 2 shows it.
It should be noted for future reference. That many C3 questions simply do NOT cover all years. A mention of which car your working on today can be very helpful.
A 68 and a 81 are vastly different when it comes to electrical as an example.
