Can anyone tell me what this part is called, and what it does. Its dangling next to the headlight mechanism on the passenger side. Looks like on the drivers side its connected to the bottom of the mechanism. Looks to have a black and white (or yellow) wire attached

That is a switch that lights up the "headlights" light on the center dash indicating that the headlights are not fully up. what is broken off is the mounting stud
It’s called the one that breaks a lot ,,,😂 You better just buy 2 of them ..if you look at them in the package before you put it in the car it will break … just do not over tighten the nut ….🙏

Next time I will just buy these
😂
Don't think these will work, the switch plunger is 90 degrees in relationship of the mounting stud
I fully understand but I could make a L bracket and mount it and it would never break I bet half the cars out there there switches are broken on the headlights the switches suck so bad if the light come down hard it will break under normal operation it’s the worst switch on the whole car hands down
If you give me a while I could probably find one that will fit … I would look around for options better then the garbage rip-off 33 dollar plastic mount switch .. I need 2 more myself but I’m not buying the instabreak switches anymore I must have spent a good 100.00 over the years
Many years ago, about 30, mine were broken. I drilled the center of the broken stud, about 3/16", entire length of the broken stud, then drilled a matching hole in the switch, not much meat there, then with a bit of epoxy between the broken joint, and a long screw down the broken stud, and then screwed into the switch. Lightly snug up the nut when installing.
