Default Hello fellow vette lovers

Hello, i am new to the forum. What brings me here is my 81 corvette 4-speed. A previous owner left me with a wiring mess. The car being 81 had the basic on board computer. Well my car has headers and Edelbrok carb so all that smog control equipment has been removed. I am in the process of replacing a high torque starter and have found numerous splices in the wiring from the firewall to the starter. I put in the new starter in and nothing works. No crank, no interior lights, radio or headlights. The battery is at 12.6 volts on a volt meter. Could it be the numerous splicing in the harness, the ignition or the grounding to the frame? Here is my question to the group. Is it possible to get a new harness for an 81 corvette and adapt it to my modified 81. Meaning an 81 original equipment has the smog controls but my car does not have the original carb or the exhaust manifolds. Or can i purchase an earlier model wiring harness prior to smog control and be fine? Thank you and i look forward to being part of this forum.

Default Hi and welcome

Here's the stock wiring for a starter

Get an '81 schematic, see Papawana in the general section, or get one here:

Replacement wires would only be for GM's stock wiring.

Id check and clean all the connections at the battery, starter, and all the grounds.

To answer your new harnesses question Yes.
There are actually 2 harnesses from the firewall bulkhead connector to the starter...
Here are a couple links from Lectric Limited, then search e-bay for best prices.
On each linked page you will see 3 boxes under the photo of the item, Description, Additional Info, Connects To...
Click on the connects to box and it will tell you the connections that are in that harness..
Make note: you have a manual trans car so make sure you order a manual engine harness...
It looks like on the engine harness you must reuse some of your old connector housings, If not used just insulate bare terminal ends...

So you think you have wiring issues?
I bought this 67 Nova with a LS swap. Previous owner got totally hosed by a local LS swap expert. Before and after pics. LOL.
