History....i have had the steering column apart and back together. I have had the entire dash out all to do other things and found the short in the steering column. It was the three wire combo left and right turn and cruse was pinched and shorted. Found the short and putting things back together. I hooked up the spedo and tach connection just to make sure all my new led lights were working properly. Hooked up the battery which is charged and turned on the key to start the engine and nothing....No engine fire and no dash lights. I tried the radio and that works fine. My next thing is to check all fuses to see if they are good and get power thru them. What else should I check?
There are fusible links going to the starter harness. You probably should get a wiring schematic for whatever year your car is. That will help you set up a map of what/where to look for your problem rather than just guessing. Good luck.
I just didn't know what to look for. Now I can seem on the schematic. Next problem, I replaced the hood latch from drivers' side to passengers' side and it's been working fine. But of course, now that I need to get to the starter fusible link, I can't get the passenger side to open. Today is just not a good day for working on the vet. Seems like everything I touch causes another problem. Anyone know how to get the hood to open?
Now I feel really stupid. I moved the shift lever back when I took the dash out and it was in drive. Problem solved thanks to Rescue Rogers!!! However, I did take the starter out and replaced the fusible links before I saw Rescue Rogers post, serves me right for overlooking the shifter not being in park. Now I can resume the assembly and get things done.
