Power Steering Control Valve Removal
Hello All,
I am trying to remove my power steering control valve. All the lines are disconnected, and the castle nut and cotter pin have been removed. I have a pickle fork between the Pittman arm but can't get a big enough swing on it with a hammer to break it free. (not enough room) Does anyone see a reason why I can't put a little heat on the Pittman arm where it goes around the ball stud to assist with breaking it free?
Thanks

Maybe a cheap air hammer with a fork like that or I think Harbor freight sells or the automotive store sell a pretty good remover that you screw down and it pops off. Inspect everything close maybe it’s time to replace some parts to while you’re there

This is what you need.
Put a little pressure on the top of the stud by tightening the screw and a few taps on top of the lever and it will pop out.

Thanks Interpon,
That harbor freight tool may work. Not sure I have enough room to get it in there, but will check it out...

If you have an air hammer, hold it against the side of the pitman arm. Vibration and side-load will help release it.

In a real pinch, you could remove the pitman arm from the steering box.
It's one of the steps to installing a Borgeson power steering solution anyway.
You will likely need to buy tools for this solution.

That tool is what I used when I took my power stering control valve off for an overhaul. Came from Harbour Freight as well. It's pretty compact.

That's the tool I used and it works great!
Edit: and I see you properly greased the threads before using it.

I must agree with all of you. I was getting very frustrated and could not get it to separate. I was trying to get the pickle fork in there and it was driving me crazy. I went to Harbor freight, purchased
stingr69 and others recommended. Off in 5 minutes. It’s worth the cost.
