Default 68 convertible Deck Lid Hinge Nutplate

HI,

I have to replace the deck Lid Hinge Nutplate (see picture) on my 68 convertible corvette.

This part is maintained by specific rivets. I am wondering how to use these rivets.

Is there a specific tool for that kind of rivet or any particular way to do it ?

Thanks a lot.
Best regards.

They are aluminum rivets. There are pneumatic rivet guns and bucking bars to set them. At least that's the way we do it on Aircraft. Not sure how GM did it back in the day. Takes some skill to buck it to aerospace specs.

You'll need a flush rivet set. Shown above is a button head rivet set. The "set" is what's inserted into the pneumatic gun.

Hello,
A hammer works if you don't have a pneumatic tool.
This little 'rivet set' forms a nice little 'cone'.
Regards......
