Default 2.5” C3 exhaust

I am looking for a 2.5” SS exhaust for my 1970 Coupe. The engine is a factory replacement 454 HO engine. Keeping the factory cast iron manifolds and want the rest of the system to flow as well as possible. How desirable is a crossover or H pipe for increased flow?
Any experience do u have with any of the off-the-shelf systems from Pypes or Corvette Central? Fitment issues?
Also, which mufflers offer 2.5” inlet n outlet and don’t “drone” at cruising speeds (3:36 rear end).
I will need the square outlet exhaust tips as well.

I am pretty happy with this system from this E-bay seller. The system has an X pipe integrated, which helps with attenuating sound and improves performance (slightly). The mufflers are included and have dual tips instead of square. The sound is pretty mellow. Probably like a Magnaflow system.

Looks great. I like it better than the rectangular tips. Maybe the op could modify the.stock tips to slip over the round tips. Or even gab a box but personally I'd leave it as is.

Hello Bob,
The sb pre-welded aluminized exhaust system from Corvette Central seems to make many folks happy.
You may want to checkout their 2 1/2" system for bb cars.
In the past they have offered free shipping on occasion. You might want to wait for that if you have the time.
Not SS but still a very nice looking and sounding exhaust system that seems to hold up quite well.
Regards.....

Great looking exhaust! Can you share some pictures of under side and how it is connected to the headers?

Another idea is just but SS 2.5 inch pipes with or without X pipe have a shop hook them up to your headers and your muffler of choice.

Below is my rebuilt/upgraded original L-82 355 with Mid America SS 2.5 inch exhaust, installed originally by me in early 2000's, adapted to later ceramic coated SS 1 7/8 inch headers, custom finished with C4 Type S Borla square tipped mufflers. The C4 Borla Type S mufflers (not cheap but worth every $) are, in my opinion, having used or heard too many mufflers to list over the last 45 years, far superior to anything out there with a smooth mellow idle sound, no motor boat sound like most SBC mufflers, allowing easy conversation at cruise with light to moderate smooth rumble, pretty aggressive only when pushed.

Note that I have Hooker Blackheart cast headers on a 6.2L LT1 swap, and a Gforce removable cross member, so from the X pipe forward, it is not stock. I had to do some fabrication to get it to tie into the system that I noted in my post. Most aftermarket systems are from the X pipe rearward.

Thanks for the reply.
I have old Mr. Gasket long tube headers and currently run a Hooker exhaust with generic mufflers. Good exhaust but I like the one you used a lot.

I strongly recommend the Corvette Central systems. Fit just like factory which is important for ground clearance. Most of the aftermarket systems simply hang too low. I have had the same system on my car for about thirty years. The mufflers come wth a lifetime warranty and mine rusted out after about twenty years. I really didn't expect they would honor the warranty after that long but they did. New mufflers just cost me shipping to return the old ones.

I trailered mine to an exhaust shop to get this system installed. The mufflers are 2.5" diameter, long QTP Quick Time Performance units. I ordered it with key fob actuated electric valves to have a dual mode setup. Relatively quiet for everyday driving, or louder when you want it to be. I really like the sound in the quiet mode.

Any sources for the square, factory style, tips that will fit on 2.5" outlet mufflers? Pypes offers em but they have Pypes embossed on the top of em. Don't know that I am interested in a logo on my exhaust tips.

Did you check with Zip, or Corvette Central?
