I pulled the doors off of my project ,81 due to rust in the door bottoms..I noticed that all the seam sealer in the front door jam is hard ,cracked and falling out..
What bugs me is there is a large gap between the fender and pillar post on both sides of the car..it looks like the original sealer is there but I can slide my finger between the fender and the sealer..
Is this normal wear and settleing due to body flex,? I can find no indication that the car has been hit anywhere
Hello,
Because of the way the front fenders/clip is riveted/bonded to the cowl there is a gap between the upper/inner surface of the fender and the hinge pillar.
It's typically a pretty nasty area even on very original cars.
Regards.....
Here's a couple of photos showing how ugly that area can be and the gap between the fender and hinge pillar.
