Default 1972 Firewall original insulation

Hello,

I decided to replace the insulation in my fire-resistant partition with ZIP pieces that closely resemble the original.

Having seen in a book how to add more modern insulation before installing the original pieces, I've now done just that.
The original ZIP insulation requires a lot of extra work to create all the necessary holes!
Cutting the modern insulation (THERMO TEC Acoustical & Heat Control Mat) also requires quite a bit of job...
Finally, I'm quite happy with the result.
The finish is close to the original, with a bit more insulation (I hope).
What I wanted to share is my experience installing the ZIP reproduction clips: I simply applied a generous amount of silicone grease to the front of the clips and pushed them in by hand (without the special tool). You need to feel the clip go into the hole a bit, but it's ultimately easy. I then removed as much grease as I could with Prepsol because I'm a little worried the clips might pop out on their own...

I also have a question about the mounting position of the air conditioning grommets:
I saw this order in the AIM manual, but on my car and many others I've seen online, they're reversed! What's the correct order? Maybe correct order is not very important?

Hello,
It looks like you've done a good job on the firewall.!!
I'm not sure what you mean.... the 2 large grommets in the upper center of the AIM sheet?
Regards....

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your compliment !

Yes, exact : these 2 large grommets : one with vacuum AC lines and one with electrical cables for AC.

When I took possession of my vette, the interior was disassembled. So I'm interested in following your progress assembling yours. I suspect that lower rubber insulation holders(GM #3868790) are shared and hold the carpet too?
