Default Drive Shaft Balance

I've removed the differential from my 69 BB to have it rebuilt. No driving issues or unusual sounds, but alignment shop pointed out excessive slack in the side yokes (approx 0.07"). Only 60k miles, but Gary advises me that components are at or beyond life expectancy (Sept 69 build). Who knows what will be found inside. I'm the original owner and the car was never driven hard and never will be as long as I own it.

I plan to have the drive shaft u-joints replaced. I've read about marking the drive shaft and yokes at both ends to assure proper orientation when reinstalling. In my struggles to get front diff support out and the shaft loose, I failed to mark the yoke on that end. I wonder if that would have been meaningful considering the front yoke on the diff might be replaced anyway. Is it common to replace that yoke during a "typical" rebuild? I know the pinion seal should be replaced.

If shaft orientation at the diff end is critical for proper shaft balance, what must I do now that the diff is out and the shaft yoke not marked?

Thanks
Mike

I think its cheap insurance to send out driveshaft with yoke attached to balance.

Yokes might already be marked.

Take a look at your differential yoke and propeller shaft yoke. On my 1980 both yokes were marked with a series of small dots on one side.

(dots like what you would make with a small, sharp punch, struck lightly with a hammer.). I didn't mark them, and they appeared never to have been apart - e.g. came that way from factory.
