Default 73 Vert 4 Speed conversion to T56 Reverse Lockout Question

Hey all, I am planning on a T56 in my 73 and replacing the Muncie. As I research I have seen a lot of options for reverse lockout but I haven't seen anyone discuss what I am thinking. Being someone who believes I am never the 1st one to think of anything I thought I would ask the forum for expertise.

I like the factory 73 Shift ball and handle, so i am curious if anyone has ever used the "t-grip" reverse handle on the shifter to activate a switch instead of the cable that runs there? My thought being if a shift ball can have a button on it, why couldn't the "t-grip" be setup with a contact switch which is activated when the handle is pulled up to go into reverse?

Thoughts, problems, reasons why this wouldn't work? Then the big question, any idea what type of switch could be used for this purpose?

Thanks and BeerMe!

That will work, here is my switch installed in the console. Lights up Green when in the reverse mode activated. Other solutions are based on the speed of the car. When lower than 3km/hr it activates.

Hi
When I installed the T56, I thought also about installing a switch into the T-Handle. Finally, I wired the lock out to the brake light and forgot about the 1st idea.
So I will follow this thread about what switch to use and how to install it.
Rgds.
