69 Side Pipe Outlet Centering
I have an original side pipe car and recently replaced my GM side pipes (i.e. not reproduction) with a NOS set of side pipes. In both cases the left side outlet does not center all that well within the cover (first 2 pictures attached). Since this has happened on both sets and neither are repros wondering if this is typical - not too bad but not perfect. I used new bushings and have the proper mounts top and bottom - reproduction pieces I'm sure. I've seen many side pipes on very nicely restored cars that don't align very well either. I can make it look better by using a thinner upper bushing which allows the pipe to tuck up into the cover a bit more but that of course throws off the alignment down the frame a bit. Not an installation issue. When I bolt them up I support them, leave the back rather loose and ensure the connection at the exhaust manifold is evenly torqued and the doughnut properly centered so there's not much play for adjustment at the rear. It appears the pipe would fit better if it were slightly longer or the tip was not angled down so much. I've included pictures of the right side which really lined up nicely with no fiddling around. Mostly I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.
TIA,
Jack
The cover seems to be a little too far back.
This is a photo of a set of pipes purchased 'over the counter' in 71.
The cover is also an 'over the counter' purchase painted black.

Could you post a couple of photos showing the whole cover.????
