spare lock re-key
Can a locksmith re-key the spare tire lock? The alarm switch on my car is burnt and needs replacing. It doesnt look like any alarm switch replacement can be re-keyed so I was hoping the spare lock could be re-keyed to match the new alarm cylinder.

You may be able to buy an alarm key switch with the same keyway as your spare tire lock. Check the big Corvette Vendors. I am not sure if the restoration locks can be re keyed. I took my OEM Alarm Switch to a locksmith and they made keys for it without any problem.

My alarm switch just jambed up one day. Nothing could get it to turn. So I replaced it. I'm also interested if my original spare tire lock could be rekeyed to match my new alarm switch.

If you have a key for the spare tire lock, it can be re-keyed to match any key (with the same rail code- the letter stamped on the rail of the key). You should also re-key your glove box lock so that all three would match as original. I can certainly help you get this done.

I have a little different situation (I think). My spare tire lock went missing and I’d like to replace it. If I buy one from one of the Corvette parts vendors can it be rekeyed to match my existing alarm key?

Don't have tire lock on my '71: Was the spare tire lock standard on all 1971 Corvettes? Or was it an option on 71s?
(I could live w/o the spare tire lock. But the gas cap would have been nice - unfortunately caps were/are aftermarket w/ different keyway)

My original alarm lock/switch was toast. I eventually found an NOS correct H code alarm lock/switch on ebay but as I posted up top I didnt want 3 keys for the car. I sent the spare tire lock and the storage compartment lock to Jeff along with the old key and the new key. I got my spare lock and storage compartment lock back from Jeff today everything now works with one key. Thank you Jeff, I could not be happier. I got exactly what I wanted. I have such a profound appreciation for people who know what they're doing and deliver what they say they will. And there are a lot of you on these forums.

Yes a locksmith can usually rekey the spare tire lock if it’s a standard cylinder. The new alarm switch likely can’t be rekeyed, so they would match the other locks to that key. Best to take both to a professional locksmith and have them check.
