I want some options on what to put in my 82 to make the shifts harder and hopefully bark going into 2 (3?!) I want to buy the kit and have my trusted local shop put it, but wanted some input to see if there's anything else I might want done in the meantime. TIA.
The fully-optioned versions of the Holley Terminator-X Max include automatic transmission control. And they'll also control a boosted LS engine. That would be my suggestion.
I think @DblTrbl has a 4L80e. His thread is worth reading,
Making a transmission "bark the tires" isn't exactly the best thing for a transmission internals. Do you have the "Corvette servo"? The Corvette servo along with a .472" or .500" boost valve will firm up the shifts. Both can be done with the transmission in the car.
I'm not a 4l60 guy, but on the 4l80 in my C3, I bypassed the 2nd and 3rd accumulators and slightly increased the feed hole for 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. 2nd gear shift is fantastic. During cruising, 2nd gear shift is very firm. Under boost it's a kick in the pants.
I even sheared all 5 studs on a second gear shift once.
Also, 2nd gear shifts (at full boost) spin the tires on the rim.
