Default Problem with seat-back-locking

Hi,

I repaired my adjustmentscrews located at the bottom of the seat-back. Welded nuts came off.
If the back is in the most backward position, the back is locked by the internal lock-mechanism. It can be relased by pressing the button located at the rear top of the seat.

But if I want to set the back in a more upright position, this lock does not snap in, meaning, the back can be clapped without being locked.

Any ideas?

Any hint is appreciated.

Best regards

My picture is from my 69, but I think the seat backs are fairly similar. I would put some kind of a shim under the silver latch receiver piece (in Red oval) which will raise the latch up to help catch the piece in the seat back. A couple of washers might work, but I would make something that was the same shape as the receiver, maybe out of plastic.

Hello,
I believe that the later seat back locking mechanism is different than the one in the photo Robert posted.
The mechanism is in the center of the backrest and the release is near the top of the seat.
There was a bag of seat back spacers that came with each car that could be used to change the angle of the seat back.
The use of the shims enabled the seat back to be locked in the more upright positions.
Regards....
Do you have a copy of the Assembly Instruction Manual?
The info is in the 'seat' section.

Seat back release button.

Spacers came in a small white cotton drawstring bag.
Were placed in glove box in St.Louis

I bought the kit from Top Flight and it even included the cotton bag. Interesting, the original bolts were not long enough after I added the spacers/ shims, but who knows if the OEM seat bolts were long gone? The shims didn’t affect the seat latch. Over the years I have purchased the rubber stoppers that go on the two seat back ‘feet.” The rubber stoppers on the feet only last a few months, then falls apart, I have never read where anyone has experienced the same issue.

Thank to all of you for your comments.

My problem was solved by adding spacers. Since I could not get them quickly, i made this manually using a flat steelbar.

Now it works perfectly!
