Default Rear storage compartment light

I dont have a light inside my middle rear compartment even though the compartment has a place for the light to go in.

I also dont see any wiring in place that can host a light bulb. Is it possible that the car came out without one?

Car: early 1969 427 Coupe Manual

Hello,
There's a 'flocked' fiber board insert for the center glove box.
The light, switch and lens fit in the box.
Regards....

Thanks Alan! Indeed I do have the insert. But if I buy the light and switch, to what will I connect them to? To my non-expert eye, there doesn't seem to be the wiring in place. What am I missing?

All your photos seem to show the passenger side outer compartment, not the center compartment area. On my 71, I believe the center light clips to the fiberboard removable tray and there is a plastic connector junction that the wiring plugs into. Mine does not have the round flasher? or rectangular relay? that you show next to the jack. Also, those 2 blue butt connectors shown imply to me that some wiring mods or repairs have been done. Could those leads have been the original leads to the center light that were repurposed for something else?

The wiring should be in the jack compartment. It appears there are a number of non-factory connectors in your pictures.

I did not show under the center compartment area because there is nothing to show there. But I like your idea about the leads having been repurposed. I will investigate further this.

That's what i thought. Thanks for confirming. Any idea what those contraptions next to the jack might be doing?

I found a 69 wiring diagram that shows the light/switch assembly should have a connector that has a black 20 ga wire and a black & orange 20 ga wire. That connector mates to another connector that has red 20ga and black 20 ga wires.

My light/switch assembly is completely missing, so I will never find that. But I do have a red wire and a black wire. For some reason, they are connected to something else. I will investigate more where those 2 red wires with blue butt connectors are going.

Yes, factory alarm relay and flasher. You should have the switch to arm the system dead center rear of car.

another mystery solved. I will test it out in the coming days.

i do have a separate 'door ajar keeps blinking' after doors closed. I suppose this would confuse the alarm, right?

Do you have the switch assembly? If you don't then the wiring makes no sense. The switch is a plunger type that is mounted to the storage compartment door frame. I'll take a picture unless someone beats me to it.

I should have some or most of what you need somewhere from my early 69. If you are wanting to bring this area back to stock, let me know via PM and I will look for it.

Be advised that when the center compartment lid is closed, if the switch isn't adjusted properly, you can't tell if that light is on or not. In a couple of days your battery will have been drained. You will probably wonder why.

For what it's worth, I repurposed that compartment with a subwoofer, so if you are at all interested in better sound in your car, I posted the details a while back. It made a huge difference!

For the sound I have, for the time being, invested in a completely external JBL Xtreme 4, controlled remotely via a small bluetooth connector attached with my steering wheel with nano tape. I kept the original stock radio and the original speakers and don't use them. I wanted my sound system to be completely drill-free and wire-free. The speaker is attached via zip ties, and if I manage to find a combination where I can add a second JBL Xtreme 4, I will. They would become one single stereo sound system. But with one speaker, the sound is already VERY good, although probably I don't have the bass kick that a dedicated subwoofer would give.
