Neither of my power windows on my 79 work. They were working fine before. I pulled the circuit breaker snd found power coming into the circuit breaker. I replaced the circuit breaker and when i turn the key on a hear a random clicking im pretty sure coming from the fuse block. Im assuming thats the circuit breaker tripping. Anyone happen to have hsd something similar, or can point me to where to start looking? Im supposed to be taking the car out of town to a show in 2 weeks.
I do have a wiring diagram. All power windows on 79's are on a circiut breaker per the diagram, and confirmed on my car. Apparently 79 was the first year they did away with a power window relay snd went to a circuit breaker instead.
not sure what diagram you have but this may be helpful. seems like a short to me if clicking right away..maybe unhook the wiring at certain areas to see if it does not trip? corroded connectors...
Im not 100% what i did, but i think i know what got them working. Flash back to this past fall, and also then, both windows stopped working. I remember that i found a wire dangling in front of the fuse block. For the life of me this time, i couldnt remember what wire it was. Of course research shows that the pink wire coming out of the front of the fuse panel is the power for the windows, so looking back, that must have been the wire i found dangling. Anyway, i jiggled the wire at the fuse box today, then back probed it and found power. I then went to the driver's switch and sure enough, power there. Still not beleiving id done anything i thought, what the hell, let me try the switch, and bingo! Both windows work. Ill be taking just in case tools next week to the OBX Car show. It would suck to be out of town with the windows stuck down!
